Student´s name : Pérez Jordá, Mª Jesús

Title of the paper : Analysis and commentary on the poem On death.

Author or topic : Percy B., Shelley.

Abstract : The main theme of the poem On death, written by Percy Bysshe Shelley, is clearly explicit in its title. Actually, after reading it you can appreciate how death and the mystery that lies beyond it are Shelley’s major concern. But it is not just the fact of dying what really worries Shelley. There is another aspect of it that makes him think over. That is the incapability of seeing world future changes once one has died…

Title of the second paper: Gender differences in Victorian poetry

Author or topic: Robert Browning and Elizabeth Barrett Browning.

Abstract: Reading Victorian women’s and men’s poetry is the best way to realize of gender division at that time. You can see how women start to break with old conventions and they acquire a new position in society. However, male’s hierarchical position still remains there, as we will see in Robert Browning’s poem Meeting at Night. On the one hand, Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s Sonnet, How do I love thee? will show the purest feeling of love of a woman. On the other hand, Robert Browning’s poem will illustrate a different way of expressing love passion, using an allegory to occult a sexual encounter between two lovers.

Auto-evaluation of both papers: Personally, I think I have done a great effort in order to compose both papers. I have worked hard and I would    like to see all my effort rewarded with my marks so I think I deserve an 8.
