ENGLISH POETRY – XIX & XX centuries
The first paper is about “Darkness”, a poem
written by the romantic author Lord Byron in 1816. The poem is analyzed through
different aspects like the subject, the meaning, the tone, the structure and
form, etc… Once realized that it is explained its historical context and the
relation of the poem with the overall work of Lord Byron and finally the
influence, if any, of the poem nowadays.
The second paper is about the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and their use of
the symbolic realism among other characteristics. Firstly, it is explained
briefly the history of this association of painters, poets and critics, with
their characteristics and the two periods of the Brotherhood. Then it is
explained the symbolic realism that this artists use in their art and how it is
used in some ways to criticize the Victorian society or the moral views of the
academic art. Finally it is explained, as an example of this Brotherhood, the
poem and painting “Found” of the most representative poet and painter of the
Pre-Raphaelite art: Dante Gabriel Rossetti.
