Starting from the extensive Charles Dickens´ novel "Hard Times", my paper will consist on some esential aspects of the basic ideas of this Victorian novelist. Having made a previous journey to his biography in order to attend to some characteristics that we will observe in his novel, an later also revising his works, we will be ready to understand this novel easier.
Dealing with "Hard Times", I will take out its characteristic elements, from the very extended pesimism also related to the utilitarism, to the final kindness inside human´s heart, which will turn into the salvation of a grey and cold world. Some aspects as industrial society at this time ( high class v.s. working class), and the metaphoric marks of the characters will be also included among other basic characteristics of this great novel.
