THE CITY AS A FIGURE
OF SADNESS, DARKNESS AND STRESS NOWADAYS
In this paper we are going to talk about Romanticism nowadays, over all, we are going to analyse the romantic feature of the city as a symbol of sadness, darkness and stress through some authors of nowadays.
First of all, we want to define what Romanticism is. It was a movement that took place from the late 18th century to the beginning of 19th century. This social, cultural and political movement was the ideology that broke with the rules of that time. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romantic_poetry)
Moreover, we know that thanks to Romanticism, there was a change from the socio-political model of the Ancient Regime to the bourgeois’ democracy. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romantic_poetry)
In that time, the Industrial Revolution was taking place; and as a consequence of it, people left the countryside and move to the city to look for a job, since the factories started to work.
Finally, Romanticism ideals were freedom, imagination, love, nature, emotion… (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romantic_poetry)
To sum up, we can say that Romanticism was a movement that has influenced in the history, because the life that was established by Romanticism, is the life that is set up nowadays: life in cities, democracy, types of romantic and sentimental novels…
