Abstract: This web page is based
on eight translations covered during the lessons and their explanations, from a
technical point of view. The vocabulary is included and some terms are
explained. I have tried to justify the election of certain meanings among
different ones. Most of the meanings are based on faithfulness to the
significance and colloquial use of the expressions. When translating Shakespearian
texts the difficulty increases due to the period at which the texts were
created and the type of vocabulary he uses, however this is also true with the
other texts to some extent. It is difficult to find a term in Spanish that
transmits the same meaning and does not lose the special feeling that the
English term conveys and I have tried to look beyond the literal significance
and portray the underlying significance. It needs to be pointed out that the
experience, as well as the accuracy, was not the same when the first text was translated
as when the last one was. Obviously, after practicing and dealing with more
specific texts the translation will become more accurate and faithful to the
original.

Auto-evaluation: After
consulting two native speakers I believe that my translations are true to the
originals; however it is normal that something is lost or changes when
translating into another language. From
a personal point of view, the task of explaining how the translations are done
is more difficult than the actual process of translation itself. The difficulty
of the translations has been increasing throughout the course, although some
texts and especially poems are easier to enjoy because of the emotion that they
evoke in the reader. Some old style terms have been difficult to insert into
the modern Spanish language, however they worked out well with some tweaking. The process of translation can be a long one
because it is necessary to write and re-write, however it is a satisfying one
when it comes to fruition.
