Dramaties
personae :
As we can see, this
play has 9 characters ; Terry: is a man of 40 years, Gavin: is a man of
about 50 years, Dusty: is a woman of about 20 years, Melissa: is a woman of 70
years, Liz: is a woman of about 30 years, Charlotte: is a woman of about 30
years, Fred: is a man of about 40 years
Douglas: is a man of 50 years and Jimmy: is a young man.
Plot:
Party Time is a short
play in which it gives a celebration of wealthy people where all talk on their
lives and praise the society in which they live. It seems that it is a period
of war.
One character of the
play called Melissa, talks about the society, the clubs… she criticizes all
that world, and she explains that she really never has had friends and she say
that this clubs already have disappeared because people have died and this
clubs are based on ideas which have no moral foundation.
Space, time and other
aspects :
The play passes in
Gavinīs flat. Is a close space. However, the action occurs in differents parts
of the house.
The time of the play
is the present. The play has a chronology order, it hasnīt
flashbacks.
The
language is characterized by the presence of short phrases such as “what it
a long illness?”, “ah”, “quick then”… Moreover, the play is full of
silences and pauses.
An
important aspect is the illumination, when characters are speaking, they are
illuminated; “lights up on Fred and Charlotte”…
Personal opinion:
In my opinion it is a
confused play. Pinter shows us a mistery play where appear a misterious
character too, Jimmy. In my opinion, what Pinter wants to reflect with this
character are the problems of the society. Problems which the persons of the
play donīt want to know about.
