CHARACTERS
Main
characters:
-Lord Nikolich of
Rudna: he was a
knight of the Golden Fleece, rector of the Serbian schools in Osek and a court judge in the Torontal
and Srem bishopric. As the author says, he seems to be
a sensitive man in private life…He has a 15-years-old daughter called Attilia who seems to handle him.
-Attilia: she is
Lord Nikolich’s daughter. Although she is 15 years
old, perhaps for the time in which the lived, she seems to be mature and decisive.
-John Damascene: he is the builder in
charge to build the palace. He seems to hide some secret. He was known as the
man who built in men's hearts. He is handsome and left-handed.
-John The Ladder: he is the other builder.
On the contrary, he is an old, frightened little man with short arms. He was
known as the man who built ladders to the sky.
Secondary
characters:
There are a few secondary characters…We
have Yagoda, Nikolich’s
server, and then we find some characters which almost don’t have argumentative thread such as “The Turkish Ferry man”
or Lord Serviyski, one of the most
distinguished costumers of Dimitriye Shuvakivich. Also we have Attila’s grandfather Miriewsky,a famous pedagogue and an
educational reformer in Austria and Russia.
