Abstract : In this paper it is analysed the character of Don John in Much Ado About Nothing. Firstly, we see that Don John is the obscure side of this comedy and in spite of being a secondary character, he plays a very important role. Second of all, we analyse the relation Don John has with other characters in the play: Claudio, Benedick, Don Pedro, Hero and Borachio. Thirdly, we build a hypothesis about how this play would have been without the character of Don John. Finally, we examine the importance of this character for the overall play and his way of thinking.
