INTRODUCTION
Make me a Man
analyses historically what has been manhood considered to be during decades. In
the hypertext appear many quotations which show us the different points of
view, depending on the culture and on the time. We can see that each culture
has its own ideas and its own ways of understanding and achieving masculinity,
such as the Sambian Tribe of New
Guinea which traditionally has to follow some
rituals in order to be able to become a man. Nevertheless, at some point all
the cultures agreed that violence
was a very effective media to achieve this masculinity. Fortunately this way of thinking has
softened in many countries although there still exists a general social
stereotype which constraints people’s freedom and makes them follow, although
unconsciously, a specific gender pattern.
