Shandy Hall, mediaeval priest's house extended in the 17th century and "modernized" by Laurence Sterne, who lived there from 1760 until his death in 1768. Mr and Mrs Monkman found the house a ruin in 1963 and founded the Laurence Sterne Trust in order to restore it to its 18th-Century state and house the largest Sterne collection in the world in it.
