“Les variacions de
Goldberg” is a play written by George Tabori and produced by Repertorio
contemporáneo. I saw it 1st on December.
Firstly, I describe
dramatis personae. I am going to describe Mr. Jota, which is interpreted
by Enric Benavent. He represents the Bible in his viewpoint, which it is the
main objective, it is said, represents the worst function of the world.
Second, I am going to
describe Goldberg, which is interpreted by Josep Manuel Casany. His name is the piece of Bach; he is a Jew
assistant of Mr. Jota and represents the main character of the play because he
represents principal character of the Bible.
Finally, I am going to describe the second characters assist to Mr. Jota. They have no opinion and they represent their paper on the play of Bible. However, they think aim of Mr.Jota about it because he tries to become a worst idea. It is to murder principal character of this play.(Raamah: Juansa Lloret; Masch: Ferrán Gadea; Jafet: Manolo Ochoa; Mari: Cristina García; Ernestina Van Veen: Iolanda Muñoz; Teresa Tormentina: Nuria García; Ángeles del infierno: Manolo Maestro, Jordi Gomar y Pau Blanco).
The space of this play
is very detailed in each different context. It used three moviles panels in
each different scene.
The lights have an
important role in this play. For example, they light the audience when the author wants to implicate them and attract
their attention and they also it represented violent scenes with a dark light,
for example, the scene of evils.
The clothes of Biblical characters are suitable in these scenes. For example, the characters wear history clothes in the first scene. On the other hand, another characters wear informal and actual clothes because they represent quotidian life, for example, Teresa, which is the cleaner woman, wear her topic clothes and Tormentina, which do not cover enough because she is naked more or less.
We can see that the
features of atrezzo is full of furniture, for example: the director desk that
it represents his authority, a ladder that it represents Sinai’s mountain or
another things, rood, etc…
The author mixes black
humour and tragedy. When he represents humoristic scenes the receiver has a
good reaction, it is to say, the audience laugh in sarcastic points of the
play. One anecdotic situation was that a woman of the audience began to laugh
out of place. Finally, the receiver shut up on tragedy points.
In my opinion, we can
see Spanish accent of the play is forced because the characters interpret this
play in two or more languages, it is to say, they make an effort work when
interpreting this play another language.
On the other hand, we
can see that this plot is interesting because the author mixes dramatic and
humoristic features and then it is light. In my opinion, it is different that
another plays that I could see because it is a sequence of scenes that it is
interrelated.
