Title of the paper : “Prometheus”:
The Romantization of an Ancient myth
Author or topic : George Gordon, Lord Byron.
Abstract : This first paper is intended to analyse
Byron’s poem “Prometheus” trying to extract its symbolism and remarking those
particular aspects we can separate from the classical conception of the myth of
Prometheus and include inside the personal reinterpretation of Byron, which is
plagued with Romanticism.
Moreover, the poem will be put in relation to
the rest of Byron’s poetical production in order to insert it inside a context
which helps us to better understand it. For that purpose we will talk about the
idea of heroism in Byron’s poetry and will show how these romantic features we
first analysed are common to all of Byron’s work, and extensively, to Romanticism
as a literary movement.
