Characters:
Papá Ubú: He kills the kind because his wife, Mamá Ubú says to Papá Ubú that if he kills the king he will get all the power.
Mamá Ubú: She is Papá Ubú’s wife but she has been unfaithful to him with Memnón. She wants Papá Ubú to kill the king, and then, she and Memnón will kill Papá Ubú in order to attain power.
Memnón: He is Mamá Ubú’s lover. He wishes to kill Papá Ubú to attain power.
Monomonarca: He is a man dressed with a blue suit. He always goes with a soldier after him.
Conscience:He is Papá Ubú’s conscience. He only wears a nappy. He always tells Papá Ubú what he has to do, however, Papá Ubú never obeys him.
Pueblo: Seven people represent Pueblo, it is revealed that they do not want Papá Ubú to get all the power; Pueblo considers him a bad person.
Setting:
The stage changes according to the scene which is being performed, for example, I can remember when two of them were fighting or when Papä Ubú appears to say on his throne. The characters change scenes quickly which they want to transmit to us.
Lighting:
Sometimes lights are very intense, however, other time the lights are dim, for example, when Monomonarca appears and also when he is drinking beer.
Costumes:
Each characters dresses with their own style. Mamá Ubú wears a red dress which is not smart. Conscience wears a nappy. Papá Ubú wears long trousers and a coat. There costumes are vulgar; they were not used at that time. However, there are some characters that are dressed but their clothes are old-fashioned, for example: Monomonarca and the soldier.
Props:
There are a lot of scenes, for this reason we can observe many objects, for example. The ring where Papá Ubú and Memnón fight, a throne where Papá Ubú sits dawn….
The Audience:
The audience had a great time, they laughed a lot at characters because Papá Ubú spoke like a small child, he did not pronounce some words well and the audience does not stop laughing. Conscience produced many laughs because he dressed like a baby. Memnón surprised the audience when he appeared to show us his backside.
The audience applauded for a long time when the play finished because the characters interpreted their roles very well.
Personal Opinion:
I liked seeing this play because I had a great time, I laughed a lot. I think that the characters interpreted their roles very well. From my point of view, Mamá Ugú’s was not easy to interpret.
