AN INTERVIEW WITH SONYA RAPOPORT

1.Amparo:  First of everything in which you were based to write work "Make me
man"? Why did you write it?
Sonya:  I was creating gender artworks . "Make me a  man" is constructed
from a feminist perspective

2.Amparo: On the other hand, so that you did not decide to write histories
like the other authors, and you chose this so particular form to
write hypertexts?
That form some way it can be confused ?
Sonya:  Although there are similarities, I do not consider this work hypertext.

3.Amparo:  Under which context you were when you wrote "Make me a  man"?
Sonya:  I consider it an art project.

4.Amparo:  Why you were decided to write hypertexts?
Which were your reasons?
Sonya:  Because there is text in the artwork, does not mean it is in
hypertext format.
I consider hypertext more interactive in that it gives options to
direct the flow. the flow of the narrative. All the information in my
piece is expected to be accessed.

5.Amparo:  Why you compare the western societies with those of mountains of New Guinea?
Sonya:  The New Guinea material is more basic (primitive) and to the
point upon which the western societies build their peripherals.

6.Amparo:  What is what you would emphasize of your artwork?
Sonya:  The human condition.

7.Amparo:  What is what you try to say with "Make a men"?
Sonya:  The male gender is the less secure one. It is nourished by the
female gender.

8.Amparo:  If you had to recommend some author or his works, Which would be?
Sonya:  The author is in the credits, Gilbert Herdt, Professor of Anthropology.

9.Amparo:  You could count some anecdote that happened to you while you did
"Make me a man"
Sonya:  An interesting question but this work was created in 1997 and I
cannot remember such particulars offhand.

10. Amparo: with which program you did your artworks, specially "make me a man"?
Sonya:

Make Me a Man and a few others were programmed with PageMill.
I programmed the very early works with the first html commercial program
before
PageMill but I can't remember the name. The last few were programmed
with Dreamweaver.

The following is a web site (http://etherart.net/srhist/index.html)
of my art archives that a curator is putting together from the
beginning of my digital work.. It is just a very rough start

These are a few images in the image gallery that are linked somewhere
to the history: http://www.etherart.net/srhist/srimag/index.html
starting in 1974.It may interest you.

Thank you, Sonya.
