 Hi Stuart,

My name is Toni and I am a student from the University of Valencia, in Spain. I am currently working in one of your  Hypertexts. In the subject of English Narrative I have to build a kind of essay about a hypertext which I have chosen from a list of authors that our professor, Vicente Forés, has given to us. After reading some of them I have finally decided to work about your hypertext Victory Garden, which I know is an excerpt of the original one.

In my work I have to explain the time aspects I could find in that hypertext. I'm not sure if I will be able to read the whole text but I already have found some troubles with the texts connections because some links when you click on them take you to another different part of the story. Of course you already realise that is the same scheme but does not follow the same story you left when click the link. Is the first time I deal with a Hypertext so it's a bit confusing for me to read it and I thought that it's a good idea to ask you about some help or advice if you don't mind and have some free time. I'll be grateful if you do have just a few minutes to tell me something which could help me to understand the text. It's nice to be able to contact with the father of the hypertext I'm dealing with. Who better than you knows what's going on in Victoria Garden?

Thank you very much for your time, I will appreciate any comment.

Best wishes,

Toni

 Dear Toni --

It's hard to know what to say, beyond "good luck."  Hypertexts don't want tobe linear, so they make lots of trouble with narrative time.

I do need to point out that the excerpts available on line represent only about 10% of "Victory Garden", so you probably should look at the complete work.

If you want to change to something more readily available, you might try "Reagan Library," which is accessible on the Web at iat.ubalt.edu/Moulthrop/hypertexts/rl.  It has a variety of timelines, including, in a very sequential way, the time of reading.  Or "Hegirascope," at iat.ubalt.edu/Moulthrop/hypertexts/hgs, about which similar things could be said.

Best,

Stuart Moulthrop
