The aspect of time in Sonya Rapoport's Brutal Myths
Conclusion
As a conclusion we can say that the authors in Brutal Myths
didn't use Time solely as an illustration of their work but also as an argument. More than
that, if this hypertext follows an evolution (the evolution of myths), then Time becomes the
main thread of Brutal Myths. In order to see that aspect, a single reading of the work is not
sufficient ; Time role is actually presented as secondary, though it may seem one of the most
important point of Brutal Myths.
However, it seems like Rapoport and Sat deliberately left out important examples of Time
and only mention some others. Indeed Brutal Myths really focus on the Bible, the Middle-Age
and contemporary facts (1996). But some other Time aspects are mentioned, such as the
reproductions of Neolithic female figures. This, in order to let the reader make his own
conclusion according to his personal knowledge.
Rapoport and Sat seem to put the start of nowadays misogyny in the expansion of
Christianity. Did they only want to focus on one of the most important factor of misogyny in
the Occidental world ?
So what did Brutal Myths bring me? As a reader, Brutal Myths made me discover some
aspects of misogyny I didn't even suspect of existing. It helped developing my thoughts
about
women's condition. As an analyst, I was shown a new way of developing a work. The use of
pictures and of short but full of meaning sentences, is a much more, to my own opinion,
impressive way of explaining an idea than just a plain text.
Being myself a woman, I was really shocked and even disgusted by what I read and saw. I
wonder how would a man see this work. Would he be shocked ? Maybe not as much as a
woman could be. It could be an interesting experience to see the different reactions between
a woman and a man after reading Brutal Myths.
