TIME

I do not think I should go on on developing the topic without explaining why I chose this aspect as the main issue on my analysis: The reason why I chose time as the central topic of the paper is because this is the most important of the aspects of the novel.

This hypertext, unlike most novels, takes places in a very short span of time, which is less than two days if we exclude the time the thieves spend planning the theft in the CCI, Columbia.

It is obvious that, if you want to give a full background to the story, if you want to get to know the characters better, you will have to go back and forth in time, the same way the reader goes through the work while reading. For example, whereas the prologue to “The Heist” begins when two of the thieves go to the bank in order to know what they are going to face the day after, when you click on , for example Teddy Clapp, a whole police record on the character appears on your screen, telling you in the very first line of the prologue that this is not an everyday customer of the bank.

However, the main action (the theft, the house fire, the escape and the pursuit) happens in more or less four hours, which is the time you will spend in reading the whole story. The effect that the author wants to get on the reader is to get him/her as involved in the action as possible, making it the more realistic, the better.

In my first reading, once I finished the introduction, I focused only on Regina Meshad’s story,  but when I got to the end of the hypertext I started again from the point of view of one of the thieves, then from the one of one another until I read all the different stories, with different beginnings, developments and ends.

This means that the time you spend in reading the hypertext varies depending on many facts such as if you choose the shortest path, if you go back to the previous scene and choose another way to get to the end, if you want to know how another character views the same story, so in this case it will take you much more time than if you just choose a line and you go straight from the beginning to the end that this choices make you reach.
