Brief summary of the play:

Don Pedro and his fellow soldiers arrive at the home of Leonato in Messina. One of the soldiers, Claudio, immediately falls in love with the beautiful daughter of Leonato, Hero. Don Pedro helps him in asking for her hand in marriage, and she agrees. However, Leonato’s evil brother Don John and his companions play a dirty trick on Claudio and they make him believe that Hero has been unfaithful to him. Claudio believes this, and he breaks the wedding off. They make him believe that Hero has died because of his slander. Afterwards it becomes clear  that Hero indeed stayed faithful to her future husband and the marriage goes ahead.               Besides Hero and Claudio, there are two other love birds in the play, Sir Benedick and Beatrice. These two are constantly arguing, although it is obvious that they are in love. Because of the interference of Hero, Claudio, Don Pedro and Leonato, they finally confess to their love and marry at the end of the play.
