Icono IDevice COMPARATIVES
English comparatives and superlatives, present no difficulty because they always remained basically the same structure. Still, here's how they form and we will highlight some exceptions.

  • COMPARISONS OF ADJECTIVES.
  1. When the adjective has one syllable, we add "-er".
  2. When the adjective has more than two syllables, we use "more... than".
  3. When there is a difference and we use "-er", "more" or "less", we use "than".

  • COMPARISONS OF QUANTITY.
  1. Less is used in the singular only with substances: less money, less milk, less water,...
  2. Fewer is used in the plural only with individual objects, people, etc.: fewer children, fewer cars, fewer bottles of milk, etc.
  3. More is used in the singular and in the plural.
