1938
Frederick Forsyth was born in
1955
At age seventeen, Forsyth decided he was ready
to start experiencing life for himself, so he left school and traveled to
1956
He started work as one of the youngest pilots
in the RAF, earning his wings when he was just nineteen years old. He worked
here until 1958.
1959
He worked as a reporter for the Eastern Daily
Press in
1961
He became a correspondant
for Reuters, first in
1965
Returning to
1967
He covered the Biafran
side of the Biafran-Nigeria war from July to
September, as assistant diplomatic correspondent. This provided him with
knowledge of international politics, and the world of mercenary soldiors.
1968
He left the BBC to return to
1970
After nine years of an intense journalist
career, he decided to write a book using the research methods he had learnt
while a reporter.
1971
The Day of the Jackal was Frederick Forsyth's
first novel. An assassin known as The Jackal is hired to kill Charles De
Gaulle. We know he's going to fail, but the story is a great success despite
this knowledge.
1972
He published The Odessa File. A story about the
hunt to bring a WW II war criminal to justice.
1974
Frederick Forsyth published The Dogs of War.
1979
Is published The Devil’s Alternative. It’s a
cold war spy thriller.
1980
Frederick Forsyth sold his house in
1984
Frederick Forsyth published The Fourth
Protocol. It tells the story of a Russian renegade secret service chief who
sends an agent to
1989
It is published The Negotiator. It’s the story
of a ploy to force the President of the
1990
Frederick Forsyth had decided to retire, but
after ripped-off by dodgy financial advisor, Roger Levitt,
he started to write again.
1994
It’s published The Fist of God, which is set in the build-up to the first Gulf
War, where a British SAS operative is sent to

Icon’s novel is published. It is set in 1999,
at which time Russian politics is in a crisis. A populist Russian politician
looks like he will win the upcoming presidential election, but the British
secret service has obtained proof that this man will be worse than Hitler was
