Abstract:
The course has included a wide range of movements and authors regarding English
poetry production during the XIX and XX centuries. It has focused mainly on
English authors although it has properly include views on other authors who
have also chosen the English language as a vehicle of giving birth to their
poetry, and especially due to their English colonialism on heir homeland, such
is the case of Derek Walcott or Seamus Heaney.
Throughout the course I have acquired a wide and quite
deep idea on what English of 19th and 20th centuries
poetry is like. I think that we have seen which has been the development of
this literary genre, which goes from the more accessible language and images
used in the beginning, like William Blake’s, to a more sophisticated ones, like
T. S. Eliot’s o Ezra Pound’s works. Moreover, we have been able to see how
poetry has been getting rid of the references to Catholic religion or has been
influenced by the different cultural and societal movements throughout these
two centuries of poetic creation, like for instance Romanticism or the First
World War. Finally, an approach to some of the critical methods and schools
have helped in understanding how to approach poetry for a better understanding.
On the papers, one can find links to the poems and to
all related websites and bibliography which have been helpful for me to carry
out the due tasks, nevertheless one can also see than in he first essays there
are very few or none of those mentioned links and this is because in the
beginning we were not using the MLA format credit method we have been using
lately.
