Time's aspect

Time, is so in past as in present. Past tense is used when she talk about her childhood, at that time she was scared about that strange presence she perceived. For example: "Sometimes I drag my pillow to the hall and collapse into deep sleep on the carpet next to my parent's room". "...here the light spreads and billows as the soot lifts under the restorer's brush and the spirits always present are finally seen and not just felt".
Present tenses relate when she is a young girl and she's finding out who that spirit be. We can have examples as: "I am walking down the road out on my mom's porch" ( This is when Anna find's out her grandma has turned into a frog in terms of communicating with her)
"I want you to always be my visitor grandma. I hope you will continue to guide me .."

In many occasions I found it impossible to determinate wheather she was telling about the past or the present, and if she was talking about her dreams or her real present. It was very difficult to find out, the links contributed on the messy task.
