Ernest Hemingway

One of the most important member of this group is Ernest Hemingway. He was a kind of revolution in the English style. His life is more interesting than his novels because he was the first American that was in every where, he was a journalist, during the Spanish Civil War he went to Spain for fight with the Republican army. He wrote several novels and short stories.

A Farewell to Arms(1929) is the one with more Naturalism characteristics, it is about his own experience, he went to the II World War as a volunteer, as ambulance driver, then he went home as a legitimate war hero. He went to the II World War and to the Spanish Civil War because he wanted to be in every war.

Hemingway’s central theme is how to confront to possibility of death and it’s because he loves the bulls. In the novel the protagonist always loses, but even if you have a victory is going to be temporary because everybody is going to die. He has an exceptional cynical sense about life.

In A Farewell to Arms we find two histories mixed into one, a war story and a love story. The story is about a soldier who fall in love of a nurse during the I World War.
