STORIES
Derek Powazek divides the e-magazine
he founded (FRAY) into four main sections: HOPE, CRIMINAL, DRUGS and WORK.
But not only appear these four main sections but another section of storytelling
(STORYBLOG) and sections inside other sections, indeed!! (like LOVE inside
DRUGS).
The most important common feature
they have is that all the stories have an invitation from the author to every
reader who connects with this site to participate sending their writings,
their opinions and their suggestions. He builds up some stories thanks to
the personal stories sent by the readers, indeed!!
Then, the most important feature
related to these stories is that they are completely interactive because
they include the author's exposition and the readers participation and colaboration
in the creation of what Powazek calls 'an effective community rounding a
space on the net'.
In the CRIMINAL section we can find stories
about times that test your faith, that is, some moments or events that makes
you think about human assumptions like personal opinions, the capacity of
decision, ... We can find that in the story later analysed, I Voted, and in other
stories like My New Neighbouhood.
In the WORK section there are some stories
dealing with what we do because we have to. This is clearly shown in the following
analysis of Playing with Fire
because it explains how a child
considers the fact of extinguish a fire he started as a duty, as something
he has to do. This topic is also shown in Stoked.
In the DRUGS section we can find stories
of experiences that challenge assumptions like how to change a bad habit
( Smoking ) or people's
experiences with love and how they face it ( like in The Things We Do For Love
). Here we can find a 'sub-section' made from different hypertexts authors
called The Things We Make For
Love which contains a lot of stories dealing with personal experiences
with love and love relationships.
In the HOPE
section there are stories dealing with moments that make life fly, that is,
those moments in which people thinks for themselves and express their way
of thinking about life, like in The Year 2000 or
in The Book of Burning Man.
This section is particularly personal for the author because the vast majority
of the stories are about personal experiences very important for him.
