The first chapter of Damascene
happens in 1718, at the end of the Austro-Turkish war with the treaty of
Passarowitz.
Nonetheless, the rest of the
story
happens a hundred years after that, some time
after
1808, when Shuvakovich is first named. After this
time, the series of events with Attilia and
Lord Nikolich as lead characters
unfolds.
There is another time mark in the
text, in The Dining-Room chapter. When Alexander gives
Attilia the book about Simeon Pishevich.
He lived from 1744 to 1784.
