Definitions

These concepts written below were explained in class, and these are their definitions:  

 
   Synchronic  adj.  Relating to a language as it is at a particular point in time.

·        Diachronic  adj. Relating to the way a language has developed over time.

·        Layperson  noun  A person who does not have expert knowledge of a particular subject.

          Shibboleth  noun  A custom, word, etc. That distinguishes one group of people from another.
