Abstract :

Hélène Cixous was born in Oran (Argelia) the 5th of June in 1937. Her main focus was English Literature and the works of James Joyce. She is a professor at the University of Paris VIII, whose centre for women’s studies was founded for her. She has written about sexuality, fiction, drama and poetry.

Her most important influences were: Sigmund Freud, who established the initial theories which would serve as a basis for some of Cixous’ arguments in developmental psychology; Jacques Lacan, believes that when we enter into a language there is a deep “split” that occurs in our unconscious self; Jacques Derrida and Cixous grew up as French Jews in Argelia and share a “belonging constituted of exclusion and nonbelonging”; The Bibliothèque nationale de France is a collection in Cicous’ name, afer Cixous donated the entirety of her manuscripts to date.

Her most important works are: The Laugh of the Medusa, it is an exhortation to a “feminine mode” of writing; Sorties, is based in oppositions; Three Steps on the Ladder of Writing,  are The School of the Dead, The School of Dreams and The School of Roots.

 

Auto-evaluation:
 
  I think that this writer is very interesting because she writes a lot about feminism and I think that people had to know more about it. She is also a women who has a lot of world and she works with very good writers.
