Taking you there...
SECOND PAPER
Guillermo Chuliá Peris | Narrativa | C

Introduction

This paper analyses the narrative and hypertextual tools used in the hypertext "24 hours with someone you know," which can be found at the following address: http://www.glasswings.com.au/modern/24hours/.

It was published in 1996, when the web was not very developed yet. This does not make the hypertext necessarily worse than others, but clearly hampers it as the resourses available at the time cannot be compared to those available nowadays. Even so, this hypertext is very basic. There is almost no formatting, has very few pages and only one end.

This is why I chose this hypertext rather for its story and its catchy title than for its complexity in tools.

This paper is divided in 4 sections. In tools, you will find an analysis of the formatting of the hypertext, how the options are presented to the reader and many more aspects.

In structure, there is a diagram of all of the pages that compose the hypertext, how they link each other, which paths are "highways" and which are "bypasses", as this hypertext is full of the latter. In this section, you will also find an analysis of the different paths, shortest paths as well as pages on which the reader will always land.

Then in summary there is a more detailed summary of the story rather than the page diagram. This includes what happens if you choose one path or another and the difference between the two and so on.

In images there is a colection of all the media/pictures that appears in the hypertext and analysis of them.

This paper is based on and improves the paper by Monika Káposztásová in the academic year 2008/2009.
