Conclusion
Taking everything into
account, my first experience with hypertext hasn’t been as bad as I thought
before starting. Uncle Roger
has been the first hypertext that I have read and I hope not the last one
because I have liked this “new” way to read. But however, firstly when I tried
to start reading it I thought I would never end up due to this hypertext has a considerable
extension and I needed much time to read and analyze it.
I have focused my paper on the aspect of space and to sum up,
I have arrived to the conclusion that most of the actions in Uncle Roger
take place in four spaces:
-
The
Broadthrow’s house in Woodside, California. ( file1 )
-
A
restaurant in a hotel. ( file2
)
-
Offices
of a company. ( file3 )
-
Jenny’s
thoughts, memories, dreams and nightmares.
On the other hand, the
reading comprehension of the text has been quite fluent. Of course I needed to
look up some words but just a few ones; the language used in this Judy Malloy’s hypertext is simple
and easy to understand. It’s a language of a today’s girl, there aren’t technical
terms and the vocabulary used comes from a standard register although there are
some colloquial words.
All things considered, this
first experience with a hypertext has been very gratifying and I have enjoyed
it. It seems to me that being able to choose the pathways of a text allows you
to have another perspective about what a text is. I would recommend it to those
who haven’t yet read a hypertext because I’m sure that most of them would like
this “new” way of reading.
