Conclusion

During this academic term, the undertaking of this study project has provided me with an enlightening insight into this aspect of literature which had been, until now, unknown to me. Moreover, I have realized that I have learned a great deal regarding the use of the Internet, the publication of web pages and the hypertext universe. Personally, this study program on hypertexts has benefitted me far more in terms of knowledge gained than the worry and inconvenience that I have, at times, suffered regarding the problems of editing and publishing of my own web page.

The hypertext world offers us an endless range of possibilities, within the reach of each and every one of us. We often think that we can never reach the end or that there is more story than we could ever read; nevertheless, this is one of the principal features of a hypertext- the availability of so many paths to choose from.

After having carried out this study on the work Sister Stories, I would say that this hypertext, in many ways, creates a “complicity” between author and reader. It is possible, through the use of its various links, to select the course or development of the work, to opt to gain an insight into the women, the men or the Aztec family with its customs, history, the Aztec calendar or the importance they gave to colours and their significance, because for all the Mesoamerican people the world’s directions each had an emblematic colour, as did their trades and crafts. The truth is that I am very satisfied with the work I have chosen because I have learned a great deal about this culture which was unknown to me until I started to read this hypertext, and I believe that due to the meticulous attention to detail which characterizes the work, together with the sheer volume of information brought to us as we read, whoever reads Sister Stories, will gain the deepest of understandings of Aztec culture.

In my opinion, my choice of subject matter has proved to be an unqualified success, not only because of what I have previously mentioned, but also because I believe that in the world in which we live, with its melting pot of races, its peoples in danger of extinction, its customs and myriad of languages, so great in number that it would be impossible to know of them all, I have always been fascinated by other cultures and societies, and more so those so mysterious that very little is known about them. I am not sure whether this is because of our desire to know the unknown, to explore and discover what we could not have previously imagined, and because such discoveries can widen our cultural horizons and our worldly knowledge. I think that one of the most important aspects of life is to discover and to learn. What is the importance of the unknown if we do not know of its existence?
