SIMPLE PLOT
In this
story there are three partner: Sara and Arthur, Bea and Scan, Rachel and Ned.
All of them live in the same house and they have a rare style of life. In the
first case, Sara and Arthur, she lives in the opposite way of thet have been educated
by her mother. She adopt bad habits in opposition the values what her mother
have tried to give to his daughter. They lived in an anarchic context with a
lot of disorder. They think that this behaviour was the best in the life, but
they in his inner thoughts would prefer other situation in their life.We can
see it when Arthur says: “Will we someday care about reading at the table?- I
can’t imagine”.
The
conversations between the girls are always dealing with sexual subjects. They
treat it ironically. Once Sara and Rachel went to the comercial center and they
began to talk about the possibility to prostitute themshelves. Sara and Rachel
talk about the fault of hygiene in this “profession”: “They discussed the problems of violence, disease. If
it could be kept sanitary, they agreed.” They would
administrate the sex periodically: “I just can’t drum up a strong feeling about
prostitution” – Sara admitted. Besides, they were talking about the
violence and the possible diseases what are around the prostitution. They treat
this sad situation of some of the women. We can see here: “We could send out appointment cards: It’s time for
your fuck”.
The type
of dialogues what the cast in this story is maintained between them are very
absurd and are daily routines. This is one of the ways that Martha Conway’s
uses to approach a lot to the reader (in this case the hypertextual reader).
One example could be when Sean, Ned and Arthur are talking about the bad
quality of food they eat. They talk about the bad health of their stomach when
they eat bacon.
The
narrative of the story is in the third person such as the dialectal
sequences. We can see it when they have
a dialogue about the role of the woman into the marriage where the woman loses
her freedom and begins to be slave of her partner: “Marriage is the enslavement of women” – Bea said.,
and she must to live in a different style of life: the family.
Other of the episodes what the
author relates is when Sara and Arthur, Rachel and
Ned, Bea and Sean -- went to a computer awards ceremony.
They spend their time talking about a shepherd who wished much to marry, and
was acquainted with three sisters who were all equally pretty, so that it was
difficult for him to make a choice, and he could not decide to give the
preference to any one of them. Then he asked his mother for advice. “Invite all three, and set some cheese before them,
and watch how they eat it", said the sepherd’s mother to his
son.
The last conversation that is
molded in the work is which keeps speaking about the capacity of change the style
of life that have some people, that resists with the desires to continue this
type of life and do not act as an attorney
bigger preoccupations nor responsibilities. We can see when the Martha
Conway uses the conditional: “We would probably...”
The work ends talking about
the necessity of the existence of the
free time in the people’s life and its importance: “We like our free time.”
