CHARACTERS
The hypertext has two basic
characters (the wife and the husband). Exist other, but not appear in an
excessive form or have a fundamental function (for example in the link Month
Two: Your Friends or Month
Six: Your Outbursts).
The story doesn’t specify
the names or a physical description of the marriage couple. As we have
indicated before, this could serve to translate the events to a normal family.
We also don’t know their age, but in the Month Three: Your Amnio appears this reference: You will be shocked to hear that at age 35 there is a one in 265 chance that your kid will have Down's syndrome.[…] You will blame your husband for these. It can provide us an idea about the woman profile.
She is the absolute protagonist in the hypertext. All the narration turns around her. She is an obsessed woman with a complex character, suffers the main pain and strong anxieties during the pregnancy, her hormones are changing quickly and sometimes she doesn’t accept her new body, clothes or tests. Frequently her nerves dominate her actions and she finds difficult control the cravings of the moment. Despite her strong personality, it’s easy influence with external opinions.
His husband, contrary, appears less in the narration and with a different behaviour, he has patience with his wife although sometimes he also will get angry. The hypertext show that he is concerned for the future baby, but not in the same way that her. We could describe a character more reserved.
Only with the reading of all the possible paths we have obtained these descriptions, it’s interesting see the form in which the characters actuate with the pass of the time gaining personality.
