To the loving
question Defoe dedicates it some few lines in which he makes know his marriage
and the birth of his three children, and his attitude regarding these facts
it is not in any moving moment but once again rigorously utilitarian. All
this is very coherent because, as Weber comments, sex and love are one
of the irrational factors of the human life, and undoubtedly they represent
a great danger for the economic rationalism. With the result that the industrial
capitalism tried to repress and control it.
Finally, another of
the big successes of the novel, mainly keeping in mind that it goes to
a public that inhabits a world already dominated ideologically by the economic
capitalism, his ability in describing with all detail the different tasks
that compose the human survival on the earth, tasks with which the most
part of people have lost contact and deeply already miss in 18th
century. There is no more to consider the enormous liking for the manual
works or for the agricultural works and of gardening that wakes up in our
civilization starting from the imposition of the division of the work.
The compensation for the carried out task is without a doubt remote in
the case of the specialized work, while, in a primitive society, the recompense
is equivalent. By means of the precise descriptions that Crusoe offers
from each one of the activities he is forced to carry out in the island
to survive, he doesn't only provide from experiences to those who lack
them, but rather he also dignifies the work, any work, in each one of its
aspects. Instead of considering the work like a punishment, Puritanism
foments the notion that the government of the divine gifts of material
order is not only an obligation for man but a great responsibility. Crusoe
proclaims this way the spiritual justification of the material exploitation.
On the other hand, the thoroughness and the detail of the explanations
that Defoe offers guide the novelistic genre in the sense that they demonstrate
that the most rudimentary activities in an individual anyone was susceptible
of becoming as regards art.
A last and important
aspect exists in the figure of Robinson Crusoe, aspect that we have pointed
previously and inevitably affects all individual. And it is that besides
symbolising as much as until here we have mentioned, Crusoe represents
an intent of comfort and redemption for the human being of
